Dentists don’t know how to manage dental waste
A large number of the private dentists don’t know even the basics of dental care waste management. According a recent study published in the Journal of International Society of Preventive and Community Dentistry, a study was conducted on 100 private dental practitioners selected by simple random sampling using a questionnaire.
The study was aimed to assess the awareness and practices of dental care waste management among private dental practitioners in Chandigarh, Panchkula and SAS Nagar. It said strict prosecution laws should also be imposed under the Biomedical Waste Management Act for the dentists..HTIMES LINK

Missing dental student found
A Columbia University Dental School student who has been missing for more than a month has been found dead in the Hudson River.
Jiwon Lee, 29, was pulled from the water after a passers-by spotted a body floating off West 86th Street. She went missing on April 1, weeks before her graduation.
She had been suffering from depression and had attempted suicide at least once before she disappeared. LINK
Indian doctors at higher lay-off risk in UK
LONDON: The maximum number of doctors sacked in the UK over the last five years is from India, Britain’s General Medical Council (GMC) has revealed.
In the past five years, one out of every 250 doctors of Indian origin lost their job. Data shows that doctors working in UK but trained in India are four times more likely to lose their job. More than 95,000 foreign-trained doctors work in the UK, making up a quarter of the total number, majority of them being Indians. NEWSLINK

While many parents remain ignorant about how much dental care their little ones need, a new study has found that babies, who are most susceptible to cavities in their early lives, are least likely taken care of even though they need it the most.
The study reveals that less than one per cent of healthy children receive dental care by the recommended age of 12 months and less than two per cent had seen a dentist by the age of 24 months.MORE ON ZEE
Mother’s low vitamin D linked to toddler’s risk of cavities
Women’s low vitamin D levels during pregnancy are linked to a higher risk of cavities in the teeth of their toddlers, according to a new study done in Canada.
Previous studies have shown that vitamin D deficiency among mothers can lead to defects in the enamel of their toddlers’ teeth – which have already begun to develop in the womb – and that these defects can increase the risk of tooth decay. REUTERS LINK
