‘Harassed’ Dental student commits suicide
Promila Singh, A 21-year-old student (third year BDS) of Santosh dental college allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence on Friday.

After ‘harassment’ complaint, 22 dental students allowed to write exam from another college

DCI may deny permission to North east dental college

Ahead of the DCI team’s arrival, a high level meeting of RIMS officials was held today with Director Prof Sekharjit in the chair.
Students of RIMS dental college have already given 2nd year examination and they are on the brink of promotion to 3rd year.

Australia: Researchers from Australia have found that depression is linked to poor oral health. Studying the data of more than 10,000 patients, they were also able to demonstrate a dose–response relationship between the two conditions, as patients with more dental conditions had depression that was more severe.
In particular, the study showed that almost two-thirds of participants (61 per cent) who reported depression also reported having had oral pain over the past year. In addition, more than half of the participants (57.4 per cent) considered their teeth to be in fair or poor condition. Compared with individuals without an oral health condition, the prevalence of depression was significantly higher in those with two, four or six conditions. NEWSLINK

Head and neck cancer on the rise in India
Head and neck cancer is the sixth most common cancer in the world, and in India, constitutes 30-40 per cent of all cancers among men.
The most common causes are consumption of tobacco and alcohol. Smokeless tobacco, such as gutka or paan, is a major cause in India and Southeast Asia.
