Root canals can cause cancer ?
The American Association of Endodontists launched a new Web page that provides information about root canal safety and that debunks myths.
The AAE introduced the Web page in April, during Root Canal Awareness Week. It provides endodontists, general dentists, dental media, industry partners and patients with information about the safety of endodontic treatment.
The AAE root canal safety Web page includes a root canal safety fact sheet, tooth saving tips and videos that educate patients about endodontic specialists and root canal procedures. It also includes patient-focused information in an attempt to debunk myths that root canals cause cancer or other health problems. MORE HERE   LINK2

Dentist fights prostitution
Andrea Ubhi-UK dentist, whose cosmetic dentistry practice is in Stonegate has just returned from Nepal where she was working with the charity Asha Nepal, a human rights organisation, working towards the social and economic empowerment of women and children affected by sex trafficking.Andrea who won Dentist of the Year North in 2013 and Dentist of the Year 2005 visited a reintegration centre in Kathmandu which houses girls who have just been rescued from India after being sex-trafficked. Tooth infection results in death of patient
Doctors found out 31 yr old John Schneider actually had a tooth infection that turned into sepsis.
The blood infection spread rapidly throughout his body and shut down his vital organs.
“He had open-heart surgery on a Wednesday morning on the 16th and he passed that Thursday morning at 1:17 a.m.,” Aloha Schneider said.
His mother and sister are hoping to share their heartbreak to help save lives. LINK n Video

Indian origin Dentist’s brings patient back from the dead
A dental receptionist and her boss brought a patient ‘back from the dead’ after he had a heart attack in the waiting room.
Charlotte Anderson-Hughes, 23, and dentist Chandra Metha used a defibrillator on Simon Walker, 53, from Hyde, after he collapsed in Maggie Jackson’s Independent Dental Hygiene Service, in Tameside, Greater Manchester.
After realising an ambulance was not going to arrive in time to save him, they began CPR and used a defibrillator to shock his heart. DAILY MAIL

Dental student scholarship in Australia
Amit Balgi, a third-year dental science student of Charles Sturt University (CSU) in New South Wales, beat 60 applicants to claim the scholarship. A 23-year-old Indian-origin Australian student has been awarded a prestigious educational scholarship named after Sir Don Bradman for displaying leadership qualities and values espoused by the cricketing legend. Dental Smiles Academy opened in UK
New education centre that has recently been launch in Birmingham. Both Dawn and Dr Khoja strongly believe that with the continual changes regarding the way the industry works, and the demand for CPD (continuous professional development) and vocational qualifications, there was a need for a training centre that could facilitate hands on training.
The academy is attached to a dental practice, which will give students the opportunity to  learn in the classroom and work in a dental surgery. MORE HERE

Negligent dentist pays €40,000
A WOMAN who attended her dentist every six months in Ireland since 1993 has received a €40,000 settlement after she discovered her gums were “not in a fit state”.
Following mediation, the dentist agreed to pay the patient €40,000 to cover the cost of treating her teeth. This included €27,900 for the cost of implants and gum treatment, a €5,100 refund for treatment already paid for and €7,000 to cover the cost of regular check-ups for the next 10 to 12 years. Insanity of Dental meetings & Tradeshows
There is no denying that overall meeting attendance, and especially exhibit floor attendance and participation, has decreased over the last two decades. There is no more lining up the morning of the first day of the show to rush in to see the new products and get the show specials, because dentists and staff can have almost any product brought to their office and demonstrated any time they want — without going to a show. All large equipment is available for demonstration at local showrooms or manufacturers will fly you to their factory for a tour and demonstration.
The definition of insanity is that you keep on doing the same thing over and expect a different outcome. If we continue to do what we have been doing for decades, both show organizers and show exhibitors will continue to be dissatisfied. FULL ARTICLE

How rough is America’s dental state of affairs? Rough enough that US citizens (for Dental treatment) are heading to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico—dogged by a reputation of being one of the world’s most dangerous cities.

Toilet’s bacteria can affect your toothbrush
Most toothbrushes are stored in bathrooms, which exposes them to gastrointestinal microorganisms that may be transferred via a fecal-oral route from toilet. Storing toothbrushes in an upright position and allowing them to air dry until the next use is recommended, if possible. Orthognathic surgical intervention in the management of obstructive sleep apnoea
Study analysed the details and relevant clinical data of consecutive patients who had operations for OSA at the maxillofacial unit in Leicester between 2002 and 2012. They had been referred from the local sleep clinic after investigation and diagnosis, and in all cases treatment with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) had failed. On the postoperative sleep study 85% of patients met the criteria for surgical success. Our experience has confirmed that bimaxillary advancement results in a high rate of success in patients with OSA. The operation has a role in the management of selected patients in the UK who do not adhere to CPAP. LINK
