A recent Journal of the American Dental Association report emphasizes that there are several common supplements that dentists should be informed of due to the potential for adverse interactions (July 2013, Vol. 144:7, pp. 788-795).

When it is necessary to add to the supply by buying glycerin, external suppliers are carefully selected. The glycerin is only accepted if it meets or exceeds the United States Pharmacopedia (USP) quality standards. Study sheds new light on link between perio disease, ED
A growing body of research points to a link between chronic periodontal disease and erectile dysfunction (ED), and the common thread appears to be related to inflammation.

In 2012, a study in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology also confirmed an association between chronic periodontitis and ED (June 2012, Vol. 39:6, pp. 507-512). And earlier this year, research published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that men in their 30s who had inflamed gums caused by severe periodontal disease were three times more likely to suffer from ED (March 2013, Vol. 10:3, pp. 838-843).

Inward fragmentation technique for third molar removal
Engelke W et al. – Conventional surgical extraction of impacted mandibular third molars (M3M) requires a lateral flap reflection in conjunction with lateral bone removal for outward mobilization of the tooth. The aim of this report is to outline a novel inward fragmentation technique (IFT) in conjunction with an occlusal miniflap approach to reduce the amount of bone removal to a minimum. An inward fragmentation technique allows preservation of >90% of the buccal bone height adjacent to mandibular third molars and may reduce postoperative morbidity without raising the risk of IAN lesions. Periodontitis-causing gene regulates key genes of glucose and fatty acid metabolism
KIEL, Germany: ANRIL is considered the strongest genetic risk locus of coronary artery disease and periodontitis. However, its role in causing both diseases was unclear until recently. Scientists at the Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology at the University of Kiel (CAU) and the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) have now decoded 208 major functions of the gene.
With colleagues at VU University Amsterdam and the University of Bonn, the researchers were able to demonstrate that isoforms of ANRIL regulate other genes that lie far from their sources in the human genome. In addition, the research team discovered more genetic risk variants that play a role in the manifestation of coronary artery disease and periodontitis.
Findings also suggest that a disturbed glucose and fatty acid metabolism, probably owing to its effects on the formation of inflammatory mediators, plays a significant role in the development of periodontitis. Periodontal disease and atherosclerosis, which often leads to heart attacks, seem to have a common causal relation, which may possibly also be found in processes of fatty acid metabolism.LINK
