MDS Dentist arrested for smuggling-India to Dubai
Dentist, who did MDS in Switzerland and had been running a clinic in Red Hills in Chennai for the last 16 years, was among the three arrested by Red Sanders Taskforce here on Monday.
The role of Dr. Shaktivel, who is a relative of proclaimed smugglers, came to light recently. The dentist, who avoided being seen rubbing shoulders with suspicious elements among his relatives, had a role in smuggling red sanders to Dubai via Thoothukudi port.He used to visit Dubai and Hong Kong and negotiate deals with buyers....NEWSLINK

Dentists to do overland journey to India via Myanmar
Four Malaysians in two Land Rover Defenders will drive to India via the old World War II road through Imphal, Myanmar, on August 15. That particular day has been picked for the start of the journey – known as the ‘Vinayaka Missions ROAD TO INDIA’ – as it is India’s 70th Independence Day, and the team will be flagged off by the Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia from India House in Kuala Lumpur. Baba Ramdev today accepted endorsement from a dentists’ association ( Prez Dr Anil Dhalla) for a herbal toothpaste made by a company he mentors and questioned the country’s advertising industry watchdog’s authority to criticise the company’s marketing campaigns.

The controversial Medical Council of India (MCI) could soon be history as a new bill to replace the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, is out for public consultation, replacing the body with a National Medical Council (NMC).
Drafted by the Niti Aayog, the preliminary report on the reforms proposes to scrap the MCI. The system of electing officials will be replaced by a selection process by an independent panel, and NMC will be assisted by a Medical Advisory Council representing states and Union Territories...LINK
The draft National Medical Commission Bill, 2016, on which the four-member panel is seeking public comments, has also suggested a uniform National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to under-graduate medical colleges....LINK
