In a well-concerted move, income-tax department sleuths conducted raids on several educational institutions in Ghaziabad,Bangalore and Gulbarga.
Raids were conducted at the Santosh Medical and Dental College in Ghaziabad and found evidence of over Rs 100 crore earned in capitation fees.
Tax officials while conducting raids found documents that shows the college was allegedly charging Rs 1 crore-Rs 2 crore for an MD seat, and up to Rs 50 lakh for an MBBS seat. MORE HERE ……..TOI

Cephalograms of no value in orthodontic treatment decisions
Statistical analysis revealed only two statistically significant differences between the first (T1) and second (T2) treatment plans, both concerning options of transverse treatment. None of the other results showed any significant changes from T1 to T2 treatment planning.
Conclusion: It follows that cephalograms did not influence therapeutic decisions for early orthodontic treatment and should not be routinely used in very young patients. FULL PAPER

New Wi-Fi-Enabled Tooth Sensor finds Out When You Smoke or Overeat
New invention, a wi-fi-enabled tooth sensor, is so intriguing. Researchers at National Taiwan University have created a tooth-embedded sensor that will catch you in an unhealthy act, whatever it may be, and lets your doctor know so he can shame you during your next checkup. The sensor consists of a tiny circuit that fits inside a tooth cavity and can be rigged into dentures and dental braces. The circuit is able to recognize the jaw motions of drinking, chewing, coughing, speaking, and smoking, and the results get sent directly to your doctor’s smartphone. LINK
Inward fragmentation technique for third molar removal
Engelke W et al. – Conventional surgical extraction of impacted mandibular third molars (M3M) requires a lateral flap reflection in conjunction with lateral bone removal for outward mobilization of the tooth. The aim of this report is to outline a novel inward fragmentation technique (IFT) in conjunction with an occlusal miniflap approach to reduce the amount of bone removal to a minimum. An inward fragmentation technique allows preservation of >90% of the buccal bone height adjacent to mandibular third molars and may reduce postoperative morbidity without raising the risk of IAN lesions.
