Estimation of age based on stage of development of teeth can give a near accurate date of birth of a child, said Dr.J.Jayaraman, research, paediatric dentistry, University of Hong Kong.

He said such dental tests are widely practiced in UK and is legally accepted. In India, however, we need more evidence based research. There is also need for the development of reference data and its validation because of varied and diversified nature of Indian population with multi racial features. The dental test mode of determining the age of a child is a boon to orphan children who face several problems due to lack of birth certificate. NEWSLINK
