Dr S Chandrashekar Shetty and Ramananda Shetty, former RGUHS vice-chancellor
Dr Deviprasad Shetty, chairman, Narayana Hrudayala have been awarded Hon PhD by Rajiv Gandhi Uni of Health Sci.
She watches at least two movies a week. But the topper at this year’s RGUHS convocation, Atibhi Goel of Basaveshwara Medical College, Chitradurga, has managed to win four gold medals. MORE HERE

Balloonodontics will now straighten your teeth
A high-tech gumshield that contains a vibrating balloon could banish the need for braces to straighten teeth.
The device, which is worn at night, has a silicone balloon inside that rests against the teeth as the patient sleeps.
The gumshield, called the Aerodentis, is connected by a tube to a small bedside machine that pumps pressurised air in and out of the balloon, making it expand and contract several times a second. UK NEWS LINK
New device repairs bone damaged by cancer, periodontitis
March 24, 2014 — A new device by Norwegian researchers can help rebuild the faces of patients who have been disfigured by mandibular cancer and help patients with loose teeth caused by periodontitis. The process uses artificial bone scaffolding that determines where new bone tissue will grow. 3-year-old dies following dental procedure
Family is grieving the loss of their 3-year-old son, who died following a dental procedure earlier this month.
Ja’Chyron West died Wednesday at a Lake Charles hospital after being in a coma for six days.
West’s mother, Jasmine Williams says she was told by office staff that Ja’Chyron was being a “sleepy head,” and that she needed to come to the dental chair to help wake him up. VIDEO link

New way to classify gum disease-Genetic signature
Researchers at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) have devised a new system for classifying periodontal disease based on the genetic signature of affected tissue, rather than on clinical signs and symptoms. The new classification system, the first of its kind, may allow for earlier detection and more individualized treatment of severe periodontitis, before loss of teeth and supportive bone occurs. The findings were published recently in the online edition of the Journal of Dental Research. MORE HERE
