As per the documents with us Police arrested Mr Jayaprakash for sending derogatory mails to several Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons. His data card lead to his arrest. Mr Jayaprakash is employed as manager in Balaji Craniofacial Centre, Teynampet, Chennai. whereabouts of Dr S M Balaji is unknown and is believed to be still abroad.
Anticipatory Bail Application of Dr S M Balaji was ‘dismissed as withdrawn’ by Justice Nagamuthu of the Madras High on 24/1/2014.

MBBS course to become shorter than BDS
The duration of the MBBS course is expected to soon be shortened by a year. After following a “segmented curriculum” for years, the Medical Council of India (MCI) is considering a “competency-based” curriculum for undergraduate medical students.
The proposed curriculum focuses on developing skilled doctors through early clinical exposure, which is expected to result in shortening the duration of the existing five-and-a-half-year MBBS course....MORE HERE

Patient gets Rs one lakh compensation  for RCT problems
Upholding a district forum order, the state commission has directed a dental hospital and a dentist (Dr Prashant Wale of Smt Mallavvabai Valyal Charitable Dental Hospital )  to pay Rs 1 lakh compensation to a man who accidentally swallowed a needle during a root canal procedure in 2009. The panel also reprimanded the hospital and dentist for relying on the defense that the complainant was drunk at the time of the incident. “When the respondent was under influence of the alcohol, the appellants should not have carried out the treatment,” the commission said. Rs 400cr okayed for dental college
The state government on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 400.14 crore for the establishment of a government dental college and hospital at Paidna (Rahui block) in Nalanda district. A sum of Rs 4 crore has been OK’d for expenditure on the project in the current financial year. A 100-bed hospital would be set up at the college, which would have 100 students, said an official. New oral antibacterial agent patented
Four UW School of Dentistry faculty members have received a patent for a new way of using titanium-based materials to fight oral bacteria.
The patent culminates several years of work in which the group studied a novel class of substances called titanates and peroxotitanates, which can inhibit bacterial growth when bound to metal ions. MORE HERE

Plague DNA found in teeth
London:  Scientists say two of the deadliest pandemics in history were caused by strains of the same plague and warn that new versions of the bacteria could spark future outbreaks.
Researchers found tiny bits of DNA in the teeth of two German victims killed by the Justinian plague about 1,500 years ago. With those fragments, they reconstructed the genome of the oldest bacteria known. MORE HERE

Unfit men are at greater risk of periodontitis
A number of studies have suggested a potential association between gum disease and systemic diseases such as diabetes and atherosclerosis, indicating that oral health can affect the entire human body.
