Sleazy sex saga of Indian dentist in UK
A dentist told a trainee nurse who had just broken up with her boyfriend to have sex with as many men as she wanted and offered to show her ‘how it was done’, a tribunal has heard.
Raghuvir Patel allegedly gave sleazy advice at practice in Braintree, Essex. He was allegedly speaking to newly single trainee nurse Saskia Tikasingh. Mr Patel is also accused of failing to ensure that equipment was sterilised. If found guilty by the General Dental Council, Mr Patel could be struck off. MORE HERE

DENTIST DIED IN FIRE MISHAP, NOT SUICIDE
Mysore, July 8 – The death of a lady dental surgeon in city yesterday was an accident and not a suicide, clarified the Police.
Nazarbad Police Inspector C.T. Jayakumar said that the death of Dr. Bhanumathi (26) was caused by severe burns due to gas leak in the kitchen of her house.
The doctors at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bannimantap where she was admitted on July 6 around noon have described the cause of death as ‘cardio-respiratory failure and accidental flame burns.’
Dr. Bhanumathi was working as a dentist at St. Joseph’s Hospital since the past few months after completing her MDS. NEWSLINK

Maxillo fac Asso members oppose move to start MCh type qualification by DCI
We were shocked to read an office communication (No DE-190-2013/2630) where the DCI ‘has resolved’ to start a new course in oral and maxillofacial surgery called M.D.Ch which will be a higher degree in general OMFS. The communication sent on 24th May 2013 to several State secretaries, DMEs and Registrars of Universities goes on to explain that if they do not hear from the recipients within 21 days, the DCI would go ahead with the implementation of the new course with a duration of 5 ½ years after BDS or two years after MDS. Most importantly, it is also being offered to MBBS graduates. Please remember this is a general OMFS degree that is being offered- not a super specialty….FULL TEXT HERE

Fake MCI website sparks furore
Another website fraud has been spotted. Delhi Medical Council has registered a complaint with crime branch against unknown persons who have put up a fake website seeking registrations from doctors. DMC believes several fake doctors might have registered themselves through the website.
The address of our official website is delhimedicalcouncil.nic.in. Someone had floated a fake website delhimedicalcouncil.com. It has different add-ons and is almost a copy of the original,” Dr Girish Tyagi, secretary, Delhi Medical Council, said. Police said that the fake website has been taken down. NEWSLINK

Pvt college trying to influence Judges
KOLKATA: Chief Justice ArunMishra set a precedence in the high court by announcing in the open court on Tuesday that the petitioner, this time the Haldia-basedICARE Institute of Medical Science and Research led by former CPM MP Lakshman Seth, was trying to influence the judges. The spotlight is on doctors and hospitals advertising to promote their practice.
The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC)’s decision to penalise five doctors from Maharashtra, including two from Mumbai, for violating the medical code of ethics has sounded a strong message to the medical fraternity.
With the move, MMC has made it clear that any kind of advertising by doctors will be dealt with strictly. It has issued warning to the five doctors and asked them to submit an unconditional apology. NEWSLINK

Slit throat, accident at dentist office
All went smoothly until the dentist began work on the third wisdom tooth. According to patient the dentist at Exact Dentistry in St. Petersburg literally slit his throat.
Wuenn says the dentist stitched up his throat, but describes the swelling and pain as ‘unbearable.’  Exact Dentistry would not refund the $180 they paid for the visit.  MORE HERE

Dentist awarded maintenance by court
A 25-year-old dentist married to software techie, within shortwhile husband asked her to quit profession and later she was thrown out of house for not being able to cook food properly.
The dentist, Namita Jain (name changed), later filed a case of maintenance in the court of judicial magistrate (first class), AM Santani, who directed her husband 28-year-old Mitesh (name changed) to pay Rs8,000 monthly maintenance to the victim and also warned him against committing or abetting any kind of domestic violence against her. Dentist convicted in Germany
A German dentist who administered psychotropic drugs to the 13-year-old daughter of his partner for several weeks has been taken to court and sentenced to a €54,000 fine. Together with the teenager’s mother, who had agreed to the treatment, the dentist was convicted for joint attempted aggravated battery. Research points to oral bacteria, fetal death link
Yiping Han, PhD, an associate professor at the Case Western Reserve University  has linked the bacteria to stillbirth, postbirth sepsis, and premature births due to inflammation in the placenta, which is supposed to be bacteria-free.
Of Fusobacterium’s five subspecies, two have mechanisms that allow them to leave the oral cavity and travel to other parts of the body, including the placenta, Han noted in a university news release.
“We are interested in why more of some subspecies are found in the uterus and placenta, but others never leave the mouth,” Han said. “We have to find out why, and then stop them.” MORE HERE
