Chaos at MDS counselling- How long pvt colleges will be allowed to violate LAW
Students demanded that the Department of Medical Education (DME) allot 50 per cent seats for postgraduate courses under Dr M.G.R. Medical University in private dental colleges as per a high court order on June 5 this year. The DME says private colleges have not surrendered the seats. 100 policemen were deployed on the campus.
“The Madras HC had asked private medical colleges to surrender 50% seats to the government quota, but only three colleges surrendered a few seats. The seat matrix isin violation of the court order,” said Dr Mega Shyam, a candidate who joined the protest.
The doctors alleged that all the seats have already been filled up under management quota by the colleges, charging huge sums of around Rs 50 lakh for a seat. The legal convener of the Indian Dental Association, Dr Muralidharan, said the DME was acting against a high court order and they are providing only non-clinical seats to students who have cleared the exam and are eligible for counselling. ‘Bioteeth’ could revolutionise tooth replacement
Professor Sharpe and his team are half-way there. They took human gum tissue from patients at the Dental Institute at King’s College London, grew more of it in the lab, and then combined it with tooth-forming cells from mice. By transplanting this combination of cells into mice the researchers were able to grow hybrid human/mouse teeth containing dentine and enamel, as well as viable roots.
The next challenge in the development of bioteeth is to find a source of adult human tooth-forming cells that can be combined with human gum cells. If successful, it will revolutionise tooth replacement methods. MORE HERE

It was never easy balancing both music and medicine. “I could neither miss a class, as it was a professional course, nor miss any recording. Practicals, seminars, exams, for four years those were difficult to manage. During college, I didn’t sing songs for films. Yet, music directors encouraged me by holding recordings after college hours and friends helped with study notes,” she says.
She says, “I still consult at the clinic. The minute I have a probe and mirror in my hand, I become the doctor. It is always exciting to investigate and diagnose problems. I love both the fields.” MORE HERE
