Forensic odontology, an application of dentistry, will be a boon for medico-legal sector in DNA identification, to ascertain health status, access one’s age and to nab criminals in cases of assault, said Dr M S Dahiya, Director of Institute of Forensic Science (IFS).

Dental student dies due to medical negligence
According to a complaint with Ullal police station filed by the boy’s uncle Vijay Kumar Shetty, Karthik, who was admitted to Yenepoya Medical College Hospital in Deralakatte in Mangalore, died on October 7, due to medical negligence shown by the doctors. He was admitted there for a dental surgery. The complainant stated that there was no postmortem conducted and the parents were not informed. A case has been registered against Dr Subrahmanya Shetty, Dr Musthafa and Dr Shehazan. NEWSLINK

Dengue kills BDS student
BHOPAL: A 24 -year-old student of bachelor of dental surgery (BDS) died of suspected dengue here on Friday midnight. She was a resident of South TT Nagar, epicenter of the vector borne disease. This is the fourth dengue death reported in Bhopal this year.
