Terna Dental College penalised for unfair trade practices
The Thane additional district consumer redressal forum recently pulled up Terna Dental College in Navi Mumbai for unlawfully deducting Rs 80,000 from the fee submitted by one of the applicants while refunding it.
Penalising the college for unfair trade practices, the forum asked it to pay back Rs 79,000 along with 12% interest from September 2011. It also asked the college to pay Rs 50,000 to the applicant towards mental agony along with an additional sum of Rs 20,000 (litigation cost). MORE HERE

Aarushi-Hemraj dual murder case- dentist couple have proposed to open a Rs 70 lakh dental hospital in her name inside the Dasna jail. Presently lodged there as inmates, the couple in a letter to the jail authorities have expressed their desire to start the hospital for the inmates and demanded a 300 square feet area hall for the authorities. In their proposal, they have also offered to bear the expenses of setting up the hospital, getting medicines and equipments that may amount to Rs 70 lakhs. In fact, they have offered to provide free dental check-up for the prisoners. NEWSLINK
Cancel admission of dental students involved in ragging-DCI
The Dental Council of India (DCI) has asked the colleges to take incidents of ragging seriously and take an undertaking from each student that if they are found involved in such acts, their admission will be cancelled.
The DCI has asked the colleges to send the undertaking to the council soon after academic session begins. MORE HERE
Orthodontist jailed for 8 years
A former Ogdensburg orthodontist was sentenced to more than 8 years in prison today for filing phony tax returns seeking a total of $36 million in refunds over five years.
U.S. District Judge Thomas McAvoy sentenced Glenn R. Unger, 62, to 97 months in federal prison for convictions of filing false refund claims with the Internal Revenue Service from 2007 through 2011. He filed one claim in March 2008 for a $35 million refund, according to a federal indictment. NEWSLINK
